Imagine Indonesia as a great ship. Not a pinisi, not a modern warship, but a Viking vessel with a dragon’s head at its bow. This ship sails across the global sea, battered by storms of corruption, waves of injustice, and the fog of bureaucracy. The Vikings once said: common sense is the finest treasure. Yet on our ship, common sense is often traded for political coupons, sold cheap in the market of promises, or neatly stored in a bureaucrat’s drawer. Vikings lit fires to welcome guests. We? Sometimes we extinguish the fire of solidarity for personal gain. They dared to cross oceans, while we still hesitate to cross the current of injustice. On a Viking ship, courage was currency. On ours, courage is often exchanged for silence, for ‘staying safe,’ for ‘getting a share.’ But don’t be mistaken. This ship has not sunk.
